4K General Information
Newsletters: Each month you will receive a newsletter. My newsletter will include a brief outline of our plans for the month, information about upcoming special events, and a “wish list” of any items you may have at home to be used in our classroom for art projects. It will also include a schedule of who the “special
helper” is for each day. (If your child is out of class on their assigned day, please switch with another child from the classroom.)
Calendar:
Each month along with a newsletter you will receive a calendar that will list our theme and letter for the week in Sunday’s block. It will also list who the special helper/show and tell person is for each day, as well as any special events, birthdays, Mass Days at the chapel or “Big Church”, and holidays.
Show and Tell: When your child has been assigned as “special helper”, it will be their turn to also bring a special “show and tell”. To make it fun, I ask that you help your child think of 3 clues that describe their “show and tell” and write them down on paper. We will have a special box to hide the “show and tell” in and we as a class have to try and guess what was brought before they show us!
Snack: Please send a healthy snack with your child daily (NOT A COMPLETE MEAL).
Recess: We will go outside for recess daily, weather permitting. Please dress your child appropriately for the weather. And send extra outside winter items like mittens, hats, and socks during our snowy weather days. We do not have enough time between our outside recesses for these items to dry before we go outside again in the afternoon.
Student Illness: Please call the St. Gabriel School office at 628-1711 if your child is not attending school for any illness. We will listen to all messages before school begins every morning. Please know, that your child must be fever free for 24hours without medication before they are to return to school. The same rule applies for vomiting and diarrhea. We teach our children to share in school, but not colds, fevers, and flues! Thank you!
Emergencies: If any situation arises during our school day and you need to speak to Mrs. Skowbo, please call the school phone at 628-1711 and the school office can connect you to me.
Birthdays: We will celebrate students’ birthdays at school. You may send a special “snack or treat” for your child’s birthday. If your child has a summer birthday or one that falls not on a school day, we will celebrate their “half birthday”, or their “almost birthday”! I will actually schedule your child’s “birthday” along with my “special helpers” schedule, therefore, watch for your child’s celebration date.
Book orders: Periodically, we will send home book orders. It is not mandatory that you place an order; they are just available for you if you would like to take advantage of some great deals. Reading should be a daily part of your family routine!
Folders: Please check your child’s folder EVERY day!! If there are any special changes, I will send home notes in their folders as well as send messages via email if I have your family email of any quick changes.
Field Trips: We will be taking class field trips throughout the school year, based on our curriculum. In order to keep bus costs down, we are planning on going on field trips with the 5K class. Adult chaperones will be needed for these trips. We will let you know in advance how many adults will be needed for each trip.
Holiday Parties: We will have class holiday parties in school. I will ask for parent volunteers to help with our parties. Our holiday parties include: Halloween, Thanksgiving Feast/Pow wow, all school Christmas Concert, and Valentine’s Day.
Early Dismissal: When St.Gabriel School is scheduled for early dismissal at 11:00am, we will be dismissing our class at 10:45am in order to accommodate parents picking up children before the big kid rush. The dates can be found on the school calendar and will be included in our monthly newsletter.
Extra Clothes: Please plan on sending an extra set of clothes to school with your child. In case of spills or accidents, your child will have an extra set of clothes. I ask that you include extra shirt, pants, underwear, and socks in a Ziploc bag labeled with your child’s name on it. Any dirty and wet clothes will be sent home with a note in a plastic bag.
Rest Time: For students staying all day, we will have a 45 minute quiet / rest time. All children may bring 1 small blanket from home to stay at school as an item of comfort.
